Importance of Dog Socializing

In current times of the digital era and pandemic conditions, we humans think of socialization in terms of presence in social media. Sadly this would never work for our animal friends. Helping them socialize with other fellow animals is an important aspect of pet parenting. Here I would like to bring a few vital points to light which would help our urban bred pets.

Having said that Pet Socializing is an important aspect of an efficient pet parenting, we just cannot let them mix with any other pet or stray animal, as there is always a chance of passing contagious infections. Protecting our pets from that is also as important.

One way of doing this is to have a pet community amongst friends with their pets and meet regularly over joint walks and conduct play activities for them in a park or an open ground.

If this does not go well, we can look for a pet boarding centre specially those who have a systematic approach on admissions, where the pets are well inspected on their health conditions before admitting. You can leave your pets for a day care, where they get an entire day to spend and mix with other pets in the absence of the parent. This is a different experience your pet will have and they will also be accustomed to stay with out being anxious while their parents are away. Other benefits of this activity if started in an younger age, is that the pet will be more confident and will also have a second home where they can be comfortable specially when the parents go on a longer vacation or business tours.

You may find many pet boarding services in your area who would happily want to provide such an activity for your loved pets. They getting a chance to be independent is way more important than you think it is. It is our pet's inherent quality to think that we are their world. This is a good feeling, but more often there comes a time when you need to leave them in a boarding when you do not have a choice but to travel. If pet socializing is practiced frequently, our pets wont have that anxiety and discomfort when they are with out us.

Many of us find our pets exhibiting territorial and aggressive behavior specially when they come in contact with other animals, this happens specially due to the fact that they think another pet or animal around them is a threat and out of that feeling they become more aggressive and they do attack some times as well. This is true with a few breeds specially. With this behavior there is a chance of they getting hurt or hurt the other pet, which in all given conditions we would not want it to happen.

Summing up these thoughts, I recommend that we as good and caring pet parents must practice and help our furry babies to socialize more often and give them a better life experience and help them lead a confident life.

If you feel other wise and/or have more ideas on promoting pet socialization then please comment on the section below and let us know your views on the same.

You have provided very relevant suggestions. We are already experiencing the challenges of lack of socialisation of our pet (GSD, 8yrs). Having the very first experience of keeping a pet, initially, we never visualised implication of socialisation. But, now we experience the anxiety element with my pet when collect the pet from kennel after his boarding for a day or more. Nevertheless, I have also experienced that mixing of GSD with other breeds a big challenge compared to Lab or other breeds. GSDs are very possessive about their masters and even remain uncomfortable, in their own homes, as long as the master (patent) is not available. I request if you may put some study on socialisation capabilities of different breeds…
